Subsets include Record Breakers, Future Stars, Turn Back the Clock and All-Stars.

The 1987 Topps Baseball is instantly recognizable for its wood-grain borders. Besides that, it's a very clean design. The box used for the player photo has the top-left corner cut off where a team logo sits inside a circle. The bottom-right corner is similarly cut off giving the rectangular nameplate space to overlap.

Card backs use a mostly yellow and blue theme. The top has the player name, position and card number in a strip. Below that is a large box with complete major and minor league stats as well as, space permitted, a short bio. A bottom strip has the player's vital info.

Among the notable rookies are Barry Bonds, Barry Larkin and Rafael Palmeiro, Bo Jackson, Will Clark.

Another card that has commanded a lot of attention in the past is Mark McGwire. To this day, many call it a rookie as his 1985 Topps card pictures him in an Olympic uniform. While there's some debate on the rookie status of Traded sets, the 1987 Topps Mark McGwire is definitely not a rookie card. His first Topps card in an MLB uniform, yes, but not a rookie.
